Predictive Torque Control of Induction Motor

Original price was: $60.00.Current price is: $30.00.

This Simulink model implements a Predictive Torque Control (PTC) strategy for an Induction Motor (IM). The method directly predicts the stator flux and electromagnetic torque response of the motor and optimizes the inverter switching state to minimize a cost function, ensuring fast dynamic response and high efficiency.

Key Features:

  • Dynamic Induction Motor Model:
A three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor is modeled in the stationary reference frame, considering stator voltages, rotor flux linkages, and electromagnetic torque.

  • Model Predictive Control Algorithm:
At each sampling instant, the future values of stator flux and torque are predicted for all possible inverter switching states. A cost function is evaluated, and the optimal voltage vector is applied to minimize torque and flux errors.

  • Torque and Flux Control:
Independent regulation of motor torque and stator flux without the need for modulation techniques or cascaded PI controllers.

  • Inverter Switching Model:
A two-level, three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) is integrated, generating discrete switching states to feed the induction motor.

  • Performance Advantages:

    • Fast torque and flux response.

    • Simple structure compared to Field-Oriented Control (FOC).

    • Direct inverter switching without PWM.

    • Robustness against parameter variations.

Simulation Scenarios:

  1. Step Torque Reference Response – Demonstrates the fast torque dynamics under predictive control.

  2. Variable Speed Operation – Shows robustness of PTC at different motor speeds.

  3. Load Disturbance Rejection – Validates stability and torque recovery under sudden load changes.

Applications:

  • High-performance drives in electric vehicles, robotics, industrial automation, and renewable energy systems.

  • Educational use for learning model predictive control concepts in motor drives.

⚙️ Software Requirements:

  • MATLAB/Simulink (R2020b or later recommended)

  • Simscape Electrical (for power electronics & motor blocks)
